What is Masala Yoga?

"Masala" is the Hindi word meaning "spicy blend." Masala Yoga is a versatile and creative blend of authentic Hatha Yoga disciplines integrating strength, fluidity, alignment, inner guidance, breath, and meditation, for a complete and absorbing mind/body/spirit experience. Classes are dynamic as well as meditative, synthesizing elements from Classical Hatha, Iyengar, Viniyoga/Breath-Centered Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Kundalini Yoga, and practices derived from Chi-Qung, Tai Chi, Dao-In, modern movement techniques, and Thai Yoga Bodywork. Yogic breathing (Pranayama) is incorporated into the practice, enhancing focus and concentration. Each class ends with deep relaxation (Shavasana) to soothe and calm the entire system.

The Masala Yoga Studio, located in Caldwell, is a tranquil oasis where students are encouraged to delve into and explore their relationship to authentic yoga, and to themselves. Here, the student is an individual. Therefore, classes are deliberately small, with nurturing hands-on attention and guidance from the teacher. Within the context of the class, each person's unique individuality is honored and respected. Poses are offered in multiple stages, making the practice accessible to students of any level of ability. Each class is spontaneous, created "in-the-moment," depending upon the needs and requests of the students. The Masala Yoga mantra is "Yoga is an experience. Do what you can."

Private instruction is tailored to the individual, taking into consideration the person's current physical abilities, with the aim towards improved functionality and an overall sense of well-being.
